    At the corner

In the exhibition, At the corner, Bindi and Coles use collage and installation to reference screen based experiences that challenge and reinterpret the notion of the filmic. While the artists work independently, a similar cohesive theme emerges: the revision of the screen. Unifying their works is an expanded sense of how film can be defined. This exhibition explores an abstract picture of cinema, turned inside out and re-imagined as film without film

    Studio Work

PLATFORM is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of recent work by Brooklyn based artist Paul Mpagi Sepuya. Studio Work is a body of work from Paul Mpagi Sepuya featuring evolving installations of material generated from his 2010-2011 artist residency at the Studio Museum in Harlem. The project is both a volume of photographs – formal portraits, loose snapshots, still lifes, and details of his studio space – and an installation composed of those materials accumulated in the studio, tracing the artist’s occupation and photo-making from the beginning to the end of the residency. Sepuya states: “My studio was private, but not a closed environment. Rather, it was a stage that I inhabited and opened to those around me.”

    Station to Station

PLATFORM is pleased to present, Station to Station, an exhibition of new work by Vancouver-based artist Raymond Boisjoly. Boisjoly continues his investigation into the status of the photographic image - that, in his own words, acts as “an object that negotiates darkness.” Exploring the politics of representation, Station to Station is comprised of abstracted film stills created through the productive misuse of technology. Sourced from Kent Mackenzie’s film, The Exiles (1961), Boisjoly’s images are made by scanning the film while it is being played on a portable digital video player: turning moving images into still ones. The documentary style film, now preserved by the American National Film Registry, follows a group of Aboriginal friends living in Los Angeles. Over a twelve-hour period, the film records their candid discussions of home, community, and future.
