The Floating Gallery is pleased to present Eye Candy, an exhibition of photographs by Colwyn Griffiths investigating food as a communicative agent of political, biological and societal alienation.

Eye Candy is comprised of photographs of landscapes constructed with processed foods. Following a stay in Japan, Griffith’s recent works focus on the fabrication of increasingly artificial landscapes: Mount Fuji is constructed with sugar, mold clouds from candy floss, and tunnels with roasted marsh-mallows; glowing forests are formed with squid jerky, skies are made from bean noodles and golden rivers from potato flakes. These and other food items are modified to form landscapes that are a few steps removed from the “real world”. By synthesizing the synthesized, the artist aims to draw attention to a connection between life in urban environments and its alienating forces on experiences of nature and reality.
