ACTIVE RESEARCH LECTURE SERIES presents Theo Sims

PLATFORM is pleased to present ACTIVE RESEARCH LECTURE SERIES 2. Our first speaker will be Theo Sims.

Monday 28 April @ 7PM
In the Cinematheque Theatre, a small reception to follow in the gallery.

Sims’s work focuses on juxtapositions of the familiar and the everyday and often plays with space as a conceptual tool. His art fuses wit and humour with the emotional, the ephemeral and the personal. Several of his most recent activities produced as both artist and curator lend themselves to participatory projects or collaborations with other artists, curators, musician, writers, and even politicians. Sims will talk about past and possible future projects.

Theo Sims lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is a multi-disciplinary artist who creates site specific and context specific work. He received his BFA from Brighton Polytechnic, England in 1992 and his MFA from the University of Ulster, Belfast, N. Ireland in 1994. Sims previously served as Co-Managing Editor at BlackFlash Magazine, Program Coordinator at aceartinc, and Director at the Context Gallery in Derry, N. Ireland. His most recent curatorial experiment, The Lewyc Institute of Contemporary Art (LICA) is a gallery specializing in context and site-specific works produced in (and sometimes on) Sims’s own home. Sims has exhibited widely across Canada, Europe, Mexico, and The United States.
