PLATFORM is excited to announce a solo exhibition from Rhayne Vermette — the winner of the 2019 PLATFORM Photography Award. The exhibition titled True Stories, will run from 06-28 March in Gallery 2. Please join us for the opening reception on Friday 06 March at 7 PM. Vermette will also speak about her research on Monday 09 March at 7 PM. Both events are free and open to the public.

The PLATFORM Photography provides support to an artist to create new lens-based work. Over the course of the last year, filmmaker Rhayne Vermette has produced new photographic images that play host to a bizarre patchwork of personally-inspired snapshots, set in various towns across the prairies. Cruising the streets with her father’s camera in hand, Vermette introduces viewers to a show of local sites and eccentrics, all gearing up for the arrival of her big movie production.

BIOGRAPHY

Following a very conscious departure from architectural academia, Rhayne Vermette (b. 1982, Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba), figured a distinctive craft within the construction of images through film and photography. Primarily self-taught, and under the influence of post-war Italian architects, Vermette’s work explores the articulation of spatial ephemera through varying scales and formats. Her work has been exhibited at film festivals and galleries nationally and internationally. She has recently completed production on her first feature length narrative, and anticipates a release in 2020.
