DeFreitas will do a short presentation about her work, after which members are invited to show a brief selection of images/video footage of their own work. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for discussion, socializing and critical feedback with visiting Erika DeFreitas. Presentations should be no more than 5 to 10 minutes in length and can include images, sound and video.

Erika DeFreitas is a Toronto-based emerging interdisciplinary conceptual artist. She explores the influence of language, loss and culture on the formation of identity through performance, public interventions, relational exchanges, photographic documentation and textile-based works. DeFreitas is a graduate of the Masters of Visual Studies Program at the University of Toronto. Recent exhibition sites include Project Row Houses in Houston, The Art Gallery of Windsor, Centre [3] for Print and Media Arts, The Art Gallery of Mississauga, A Space Gallery, Gallery 44, the Pollock Gallery at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, the Houston Museum of African American Culture, performances with the 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art, and a residency at Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) in Winnipeg.
