Salon Night with Erika DeFreitas

Please join us on Tuesday 7, July @ 7PM in the gallery. Salon Nights are opportunities for our members to meet other artist an discuss their current projects. DeFreitas will do a short presentation about her work, after which members are invited to show a brief selection of images/video footage of their own work. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for discussion, socializing and critical feedback with visiting Erika DeFreitas. All members are welcome to attend, either to present or simply to take part in the group discussion. If you would like to present, please email us asap at programming@platformgallery.org. Presentations should be no more than 5 to 10 minutes in length and can include images, sound and video.

Erika DeFreitas is a Toronto-based emerging interdisciplinary conceptual artist. She explores the influence of language, loss and culture on the formation of identity through performance, public interventions, relational exchanges, photographic documentation and textile-based works. DeFreitas is a graduate of the Masters of Visual Studies Program at the University of Toronto. Recent exhibition sites include Project Row Houses in Houston, The Art Gallery of Windsor, Centre [3] for Print and Media Arts, The Art Gallery of Mississauga, A Space Gallery, Gallery 44, the Pollock Gallery at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, the Houston Museum of African American Culture, performances with the 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art, and a residency at Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) in Winnipeg.
